Privacy Policy

Overview

Waking Words is a daily stream-of-consciousness journaling app inspired by the Waking Words practice. Your privacy is fundamental to how we built this app. We do not collect, track, or share your personal data.

Data You Create

When you use Waking Words, you create journal entries stored as plain text files in your private iCloud Drive container. These files are visible in the Files app and sync automatically across your devices through iCloud. Only you can access this data through your iCloud account.

We never have access to your journal entries or any content you create.

In-App Purchases

Waking Words offers an optional premium purchase to customize your writing goal. Transactions are handled entirely by Apple through StoreKit. We do not receive or store any payment information.

Crash Reporting

Waking Words uses Firebase Crashlytics by Google to collect crash reports and non-fatal error logs. This helps us identify and fix stability issues. Crashlytics collects:

• Crash stack traces and error logs
• Device model and operating system version
• A random installation identifier (not tied to your Apple ID or identity)
• App version and build number

This data is sent to Google's servers and retained for 90 days. Crashlytics does not collect your journal entries or any personal content. No advertising identifiers or tracking data is collected. For details, see Google's Privacy Policy.

Analytics

Waking Words uses Firebase Analytics by Google to collect anonymous usage data such as when you reach your writing goal or hit a streak milestone. This helps us understand how the app is used and where to focus improvements. Analytics collects:

• Anonymous event data (e.g. writing goal met, streak milestone reached)
• Device model and operating system version
• A random installation identifier (not tied to your Apple ID or identity)

No journal text, personal information, or advertising identifiers are ever included in analytics data. For details, see Google's Privacy Policy.

Other Network Communication

The only other network communication is with Apple's iCloud Drive service to sync your journal entries across your devices.

Data Stored on Your Device

• Journal entries (synced via iCloud Drive)
• Writing duration metadata (stored locally)
• App settings (goal type, word/time targets, onboarding state)
• Notification preferences
• Purchase status

Notifications

With your permission, Waking Words can send locally scheduled daily reminders to help you maintain your writing habit. Notifications are managed entirely on your device and do not involve any external servers. You can enable or disable reminders at any time in the app's Settings.

Data Deletion

You can delete individual entries or all your data at any time. Deleted files are removed from both your device and iCloud Drive.

Children's Privacy

Waking Words does not knowingly collect any personal information. The app contains no accounts, no tracking, and no user-identifiable data beyond what is stored in your own private iCloud Drive container.

Changes to This Policy

If we update this policy, we will revise the effective date above. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
